Sessions like this are more than one can ask for… weight of fish put aside… getting character fish is so much more rewarding and wow did the first of three fish own up to that!
Arriving in weather straight out of a horror movie script and knowing time was critical to get the rods wrapped at 19.5 wraps (71m) and to get them in position!
Wasting no time both rods got in rather effortlessly and I sat down to relax… munching some dark chocolate I had a look at my gear and decided to go take some shots… bending down to get the right shot of my gear the left hand rod all of a sudden starts screaming!
Amazed at the pace of which this all happened I lifted the rod and just felt this surge of power from a fish with some weight… and I wasn’t wrong!
After a fairly brief fight I netted her…
12.52kg… and a potbelly like I have never seen or caught… if a soccer ball could be a fish… here it is!

So how did I do it?
Feed and hookbait consisted of 4 crushed Smelly Crackshake boilies with 2mm and 4mm hnv pellets and red krill pellets from hobolife in a small pva mesh parcel which was slid down the stiff hooklink behind the hook… for the hookbait a Smelly Crackshake popup was used and the liquids on the mesh was the amazing Tigernut and Maple from Hobolife!
Terminal tackle consisted of a 1m FortNyte Premium Specimen Baits helicore fished with a 7.5inch boomed Ronnie with a size 4 Anchor hook from IB Hooks
